What is your fee?
My fee is $175 with a limited number of spots for reduced-fee options based on financial need. I accept private pay only at this time, but I’m happy to provide clients with an invoice that may be used for potential out-of-pocket insurance reimbursement. I also offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if it feels we are a good fit for each other.
How do I get started?
Getting started is simple, just reach out through the confidential contact form or call directly to leave a message. I may also be reached by calling directly to 805-325-6011 You may leave a confidential voicemail message and your call will be returned as soon as possible and within 48 hours.
How long is a session and how often will we meet?
How will I know you are the right therapist for me?
Weekly sessions are 50 minutes. In our first session together we will get to know one another, explore your needs and what draws you to therapy at this time. We will identify and develop personal goals in a safe and supportive environment. Sometimes therapy is brief and solution-focused, and sometimes the experience is a longer journey exploring personal history, ways of being in the world and how you want to see change in your life.
The quality of relationship between a client and therapist is significant and most powerful predictor of successful treatment. Finding the right therapist may take time. You may choose to try a few sessions and see if you feel we are a good fit. I work from a client-centered approach where your feedback is important. I find that authenticity and vulnerability instills trust in the therapeutic relationship, and in a place that feels safe and supportive transformation may begin. Everyone has different needs and you will know what feels right for you. If I am not the right fit, I may provide you with a list of referrals to help guide you.
How will we work together - what can I expect?
My therapeutic orientation is eclectic, I use a variety of modalities and your area of distress, individual needs and goals will determine the best style for our work together. In sessions we may explore relationships and communication patterns, coping skills, fears and challenges, exploring how trauma, family systems, attachment, and other identities and factors may shape experiences. My practice focuses on physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, family and environmental aspects of healing, and our work will be directed by your individual needs, drawing upon your strengths and at a pace that is comfortable for you.
What are some therapeutic approaches that you work with?
I am often oriented towards a Humanistic approach, empowering my clients with a focus on personal growth and increasing self-awareness to reach one’s unique potential. We may take this approach to focus on current feelings and experiences instead of past trauma to find meaning and purpose in life.
I am passionate about creating spaces where people can reconnect to unconscious parts of themselves. I also work with clients from a Psychodynamic approach with a focus on changing problematic behaviors, feelings, and thoughts by discovering their unconscious meanings and motivations and the impact of personal history on current thoughts and behaviors.
Quite often we may engage in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an approach that focuses on how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affect each other. We may work towards changing negative thought patterns and building practical coping skills for anxiety, depression, and stress. This perspective along with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is especially helpful with clients struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and phobias.
Sandtray therapy is another modality available to clients in in my Goleta office. This is a process in which people are invited to create three-dimensional scenes in a large tray of sand using miniature objects or figures representing all aspects of life as we know it. Sandtray is an expressive, non-verbal, creative approach that can be used with clients of all ages. Sand tray scenes can be reflective and self-expressive, representing many aspects of a person’s life and through this process previously unknown thoughts and feelings may emerge. Sandtray therapy can be a deep and powerful. As themes become visible through the imagery and symbolic approach that is applied, more is brought to the therapy room for exploration and dialogue.
Dreamwork is another therapeutic approach that explores images within dreams to enhance self-awareness and resolve challenging issues. Unlike traditional dream interpretation where the therapist acts as the expert on dream symbols, my work with clients empowers them to discover personal meaning in their dreams through guided exploration. The fundamental element of our work together lies in the collaborative approach to dream exploration. Rather than imposing predetermined symbolic meanings, we work together in discovering your own dream significance, emphasizing personal associations and lived experience. Key principles include a client-centered, collaborative focus with cultural sensitivity that integrates dreamwork with individual therapeutic goals.
